Donald Dyke, 73 of Midland, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023. The family will receive friends from 7:00pm-9:00pm, Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August 11, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Donnie was born on January 11, 1950, in Brownfield, TX to Lorene and James Dyke. Donnie married the love of his life, Carolyn Cook, on December 30th, 1975. They shared 47 amazing years together. He started working at a very young age to help his mom survive with his siblings. Donnie and Billy Turner were the best of friends during his childhood life. Donnie joined job Corp for training. He worked as a plumber, mechanic, and a truck driver. One of the best jobs that he enjoyed doing was being a Hot Oiler. He developed some of the best friendships along the way. Every summer, he took his family on vacation to go fishing. He has one daughter, Melissa Reed. He was her hero. They had the best friendship a dad and daughter could have. He had a huge heart for everyone that needed his help. He raised another daughter, Brenda Lairson. He also took in other girls as his daughters plus a son, Robert Frantz. Donnie loved to make people laugh and joke with them. The last few years, Ashton Medical Lodge took care of him. He loved to pick on the nurses and aides.
Donnie Dyke is survived by his wife, Carolyn Dyke of Midland, his daughter Melissa Reed of Midland, his brother Gary Dyke and wife Phyllis Dyke of Eastland, David Dyke, and Charles Dyke both of Midland, Gene West and wife Donna West of Apple Valley, California. His sisters, Paula Lasley and Hazel Lamar of Midland.
Donnie Dyke is preceded in death by his dad, James Dyke, his mom, Lorene Jones, his sister Delores Dyke, and his brothers Michael Dyke and Arnold Dyke.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Midland Hospice and Ashton Medical Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart Association and the Wounded Warriors.
Pallbearers will be Jaylen Lairson, Robert Frantz, Thomas Franks, Reggy Conally, Jordan Watkins, Ronald Sission, Jack Miles, and Frank Sowell.
Back Up Pallbearers will be Cody Ringerer and Ray Phillips.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Dyke, David Dyke, Charles Dyke, Gene West, Tommy Underwood, Jerry Murphy, Gary Harris, James Reardan, Jerry Self and Billy Turner.
