Donald Rex Farmer, 56, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, June 19, 2003, in a Midland hospital following a sudden illness. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Mt. Olive Memorial Park with Rev. Dudley Mullins, pastor of East 4th Street Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Farmer was born on February 8, 1947, in Killeen, Texas, a son of Daniel Webster and Nancy Belle Farmer. He married Diane Sue Hale on June 7, 1972 in Lubbock, Texas. He was a retired construction worker, having worked many years as a private contractor before going to work for D. D. Johnston Construction Co. He also served as a firefighter with the Big Spring Fire Department for five years in the 1980's. He retired after becoming disabled in 1989. His love shone beautifully through all those who came to know him. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Diane Farmer of Big Spring; one son, John Farmer of Big Spring; three daughters, Sherry Johnson, Debra Shaeffer and Tonya Lewis all of Big Spring; four brothers, J. T. Farmer, Bill Farmer and O. E. Farmer all of Lubbock and Bob Farmer of Big Spring; 11 grandchildren including Nicole Shaeffer, who he raised as a daughter; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He also served as a father figure for Tina Word, Loretta Wilson, Kristina Miller and Patsy Horn.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Guy Ray Farmer.
