Don McPeak passed away on June 9, 2018 in Midland, Texas, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia McPeak, in April 2017, after an almost unheard of 75 years of marriage.Don is survived by his two children Jerry McPeak and wife Judy and Donna Harry and husband David. He was also blessed with three grandchildren, Kristin Hightower, Kimberly Vaughn and Jeremy McPeak and 7 great grandchildren whom he treasured. His eyes lit up for Caroline, Hayden, Julianne, Evan, Maizy, Jordan, and Ava. For over 43 years his preferred name was Grandpa.Don was born on September 29, 1923 in English, Texas to Minnie and Verna Lee McPeak. He was the oldest of 6 children. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David, Chester, Chalmer and Colly McPeak and by one sister, Jessie Price. He has 28 nieces and nephews who called him Uncle Don.Don was married to Virginia Hines on May 18, 1942, and three years later they moved to Midland. He was motivated by his love for his family. He loved playing games with his many in-laws and fellow church members—from dominoes, volleyball after church, and “Risk” with the pastor and fellow church friends. He was adamant about maintaining a pristine back yard for playing croquet with family and friends.Don worked in a meat market for many years after they first moved to Midland. He started Don’s Meat Market on Wall Street in Midland in 1960. Then a few years later, he purchased Johnny Moore’s Meat Market. He enjoyed his many customers over the years and considered them all as friends. He retired and sold the meat market in 1978. He worked as a house painter after retirement and then went to work for MISD as a bus driver. He drove a school bus until he retired in 2006. He was an active and a dedicated member of Northside Baptist and Crestview Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon for many years.A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, June 15, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park. The ceremony will be officiated by Family Minister, Cory Brand, of First Baptist Church, Midland.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
