Dolores June Pangburn Hodges, 74, Midland, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018. An informal gathering of friends and family will be Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 1:00 pm -3:00 pm at The Branch at npw, 3800 N. Big Spring St., Midland, TX.Dolores was born on August 18, 1943, in Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania to Mary (Stives) and Paul Pangburn. She was a 1962 graduate of San Angelo Lake View High School. She married Sammie Hodges in San Angelo at Fort Concho Baptist Church on July 7, 1962. In their 55 years of marriage, they moved 21 times stretching from San Angelo to California, then back to the Permian Basin. She and Sammie raised two wonderful daughters, Deanne and Tami. She worked in various places as an administrative assistant, a store manager, a substitute teacher, and a waitress. Right after getting married she worked as a waitress in San Angelo. Moving to California she worked as a Teacher’s Aid and in school administration. Back in Hobbs, America she worked as an office manager for a plumbing firm. Back in San Angelo she worked as a waitress in Emory’s Restaurant, a Store Manager for her Sister’s rental company and drove for Meals on Wheels.After finally settling in Midland she was active in Meals on Wheels, Share, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and worked as a Teacher’s aide and in school administration, retiring from that a few years ago. She enjoyed being an active member of the First Christian Church. She was a life-long member of the philanthropic sorority Epsilon Sigma Alpha, volunteered for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Meals on Wheels, and other charities. She was an advocate for children and believed strongly in the work of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, Bunco, and her Mah-Jongg groups. Mondays were her Mah-Jongg Days with a group of wonderful ladies. Nothing else happened on Monday. That was Mah-Jongg day.Her favorite TV was old westerns, most game shows, and soaps, soaps, soaps.She was a marvelous housekeeper and also a champion Sink-Stacker. If you saw her posts on Facebook you would see lots of puppies and kitties and humorous posts, mostly family oriented. Did I mentioned she loved to play Mah-Jongg?Dolores is preceded in death by her father Paul R. Pangburn, twin sister Donna Myers Kennedy, and younger sister Barbara Brown. Dolores leaves behind her husband of 55 years, Sammie, her mother Mary (Stives) Pangburn of Brownwood, daughter Deanne Smith and husband Tim and their son Lucas of Mount Pleasant, Utah, daughter Tami Choate and husband Rick and their daughter Melody of Pensacola, Florida, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.The family would like to express gratitude towards the nurses, doctors, and staff of Midland Memorial Hospital.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Meals on Wheels and/or any charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
