Dois Orvell Ray, 79, went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2020. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at 10am at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.He was born on November 1, 1940 in Big Spring to Dois M. and Mary W. Ray. Dois was the oldest of five brothers and sisters and grew up in a close-knit farm family. Dois was a graduate of Knott High School and attended Howard College. He served his country in the US Army overseas in Europe. He was proud of his time serving his country. Dois spent his life farming in Howard county, mostly in the Knott and Luther communities. He also was a small business owner for 25 years with Dois Ray Insurance Agency. Dois was a lifelong Baptist and was a member of First Baptist Church, Big Spring.Dois was blessed with a happy marriage. He married his high school sweetheart and soul mate, LynNell Mason on January 26, 1963 and they spent 57 wonderful years together. Dois and LynNell dated in high school, broke up and then later, as Dois tells it, “One night she jumped in the car and wouldn’t get out until I asked her to marry me.” He was sure glad he did! Dois was a family man first and foremost. He was a loving husband, father and Papa, and he was always ready to do something fun with his grandkids.Dois never met a stranger and loved to talk, visit, share stories and spend time with friends and family. You could always count on having a good time with Dois Orvell. He had many hobbies and interests. He had a lifetime love of horses and loved anything he could do outdoors such as hunting and fishing. He enjoyed many memorable trips to Lake Buchannan and Lake LBJ with friends and family.Dois had a lifelong dream of owning a ranch in the Hill Country. He was finally able to make this dream a reality in the last few years of his life. Dois spent his last few months living on his ranch in Lometa, Texas.Survivors include his wife LynNell Ray of Lometa; daughter, Andrea Ray Haas and husband Hud of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Luke and Nick Haas of Fort Worth; brothers, Dwayne Ray and wife Sara, of McKinney, and Paul Ray and wife Carolyn, or Carrollton, and one sister, Jeanette Snell and husband M.A. of Lampasas; one aunt, Velma Reid of Big Spring; one uncle Junior Ray and wife Johnnie of Big Spring, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Daron Leon Ray, and one sister, Dona Rogers.Please make any donations to First Baptist Church, 705 FM 700, Big Spring, Texas 79720 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
