Dois Monroe Ray, 85, of Big Spring, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 6, 2006 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Don Snipes, pastor of Baptist Temple, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.He was born on September 10, 1920, in Coleman County, Texas and married Mary Wilma Riddle December 7, 1939. She preceded him in death in 1988, he was preceded also by a son, Gary Alton Ray, 1941 and a grandson, Daron Leon Ray, 2004.Mr. Ray served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He farmed for over 55 years in Howard County retiring in 1998. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending local sporting events. Dois served as a deacon for many years at Prairie View Baptist Church in the Fairview Community and most recently as deacon at Baptist Temple Church in Big Spring.Survivors include his wife, Bess Wagner Ray of 14 years; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dois O. and Lyn Nell Ray of Luther, Dwayne and Sara Ray of Dallas, and Paul and Carolyn Ray of Carrollton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and M. A. Snell of Lampasas, and Dona and Duane Rogers of Euless; one sister, Velma Reid and one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Johnie Ray, Jr. all of Coahoma; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.Pallbearers will be Hud Haas, Brent Nichols, Ron Brown, Brandon Rogers, Carter Ray, and Collin Ray.The family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, Midland Office, 10 Desta Drive, Suite 220E, Midland, Texas 79705.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
