Doda Rene Hulsey, 101, of Polson, Montana and formerly of Martin County and Lamesa, Texas, died on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 in Polson, Montana. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at the Lamesa Memorial Park, Lamesa, Texas. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Tuesday, May 29, at the Gilbreath Funeral Home. She was born on May 8, 1906 in Red River County, Texas and married Matthew H. Hulsey on January 2, 1924. He preceded her in death in 1963. Doda graduated from Lamesa High School and obtained a degree in Elementary Education from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. She spent 31 years in teaching a variety of grade levels. She and her late husband raised cotton and cattle in Martin County, Texas. She enjoyed entertaining in her home and found much pleasure in keeping a nice home for Matthew and their daughter. Other than teaching she always raised a large garden and invited her brothers, sisters and neighbors in to help themselves. She canned much of the produce that the garden produced and always felt pleased at having all the jars filled for the winter. She found much pleasure in reading and did so until age 99 when her eyesight failed. She was a life long United Methodist. Survivors include her daughter, Betty Thomas of Polson, Montana; three grandsons, Mark Thomas and wife, Janice of Breckenridge, Colorado, Kyle Thomas of Kalispell, Montana and Paul Thomas and wife, Kristi of Charlotte, North Carolina; three great grandsons, Matt, Grant and Jack; one great granddaughter, Catherine; four sisters, Sallie Robertson of El Paso, Pauline Owens of Burleson, Monette Viau of Ocala, Florida and Jan Ireton of San Antonio; two sisters-in-law, Cordelia Cox of Lubbock and Migdon Cox of Portales, New Mexico; five nephews and seven nieces. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Mary Ella Cox; an infant son; one son-in-law, Howard Thomas; three brothers, Glen, Kenneth and Karl and two sisters, Tom Blanche and Mary. The family suggests memorials be made to the United Methodist Church of Polson, 301 16th Ave., Polson, Montana 59860. Local arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
