Dick Seale Mattiza, 96, of Midland passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015. A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.Dick was born on May 24, 1919 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Charles and Annie Una (Seale) Mattiza. While growing up in Houston, Texas, Dick always had a paper route (often two) and delivered papers on his bicycle. He also spent many years working for a mechanic in an old-fashioned filling station. Dick was an Eagle Scout and thoroughly enjoyed all that scouting life had to offer. His life-long favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing and he had great stories of driving to Galveston in his Model T Ford and spending days there with his friends fishing.Dick worked his way through Rice University and graduated in 1941 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He went to work in Corpus Christi, Texas for the company that became Pittsburg Plate Glass and he worked for them his entire career, in Corpus Christi, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Dick retired three times but was asked back several times to head special projects.He married Josephine Barrett on March 27, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dick and Jo loved to travel and they had many wonderful trips all over the world-these were some of his happiest memories. Daddy, we will miss you.He is survived by his daughters; Susan Granberry (Bill), and Nancy Herrington (late husband Charlie), 2 granddaughters; Kimberly Granberry Altizer (Jeff), and Lynn Granberry Alsup (Jeff), and 6 great-grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Josephine Barrett Mattiza.The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff at Helen Greathouse Manor who made Dick’s last years so pleasant.
