Diantha D. Dawkins, 71, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. She was born on October 6, 1942 in McCamey, Texas, and obtained all of her early education there graduating at McCamey High School. She went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Librarian Studies from the University of Texas in Austin. Diantha has been an avid “hook-em horns” supporter all of her life.Following her graduation, she moved to Midland and started her years of service with the MISD School District. She was the librarian at several schools, held the position of Lead Librarian for MISD, but spent the longest tenure at Lee Freshman School retiring in 2004.Diantha was a dependable, caring, and loyal person and had many friends. She was very active in many groups in Midland, including Midland Association of Retired School Personnel, Midland Society of University Women, Upsilon Eta, Delta Kappa Gamma, Beta Pi, Kappa Kappa Lota, Midland Women’s Club, Midland Women’s Club Book Review, and Texas Library Association.She also supported for years Live on Stage, The Mavericks, Midland Community Theater, Abilene Theater Group, Midland Symphony & Chorale, Midland Storytelling Festival, and A Storybook Christmas.She is preceded in death by her parents, Kirby & Lucille Watson Dawkins. She is survived by first cousins, Elwood Baldridge of Fayetteville, AR, Charlotte McCoy of Walhalla, SC, Ross Dawkins, Jr. of San Angelo, TX, Judy Reeve of Beaver Creek, OH, Arliss Barrow of Estancia, NM, and Lynn Buie Carter of Yardley, PA and their families.Also cherishing her friendship were her best friend, Pat Adams, her faithful employee, Celia Munoz, and Connie Staton. Her “Birthday Gang” consisted of long-time friends Linda Whitaker, Barbara Elliott, Jo Hayes, B.J. Haley, Martha Lubke, Penny Underbrink, and Janet Haney.There will be a Meet and Remembrance for friends to gather and celebrate Diantha’s life from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday, September 29, 2014 at Memorial Christian Church, 1001 Andrews HWY in Midland.,
