Dex D. Welch, 77, of Midland, TX passed away on April 26, 2025. A visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 5, 2025 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Services will be led by Lennon Noland.

Dex was born on March 6, 1948, in Pecos, TX to Short Welch and Thelma Cleo Merworth. He was raised in Pecos, where he attended high school and then later Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX. His greatest success in life, other than his wife and kids, was finding Jesus in 1984. Soon after he surrendered to the ministry.

He met and married his wife of 50 years, Doris Neslony Welch, in June 1974. They moved around West Texas, following his oil & gas career, until landing in Midland, TX in 1995. He had three sons: Todd, Troy & Colby, and his most favorite child, his daughter Shelby.

He is preceded in death by his mother Cleo Welch and siblings Arma Lee Frymire, Glenda Videtto, Maxine Willis, Jeanne Lubby Durl Welch and Dwaine Welch.

He is survived by his wife Doris of Midland, son Todd and wife Deann Welch, son Troy Welch, daughter Shelby Welch, son Colby and wife Kaycee Welch; grandkids: Tiffany and Brent Hanauer, Carissa and Jeff Gressett, Ashlee and Chance Bonner, Ethan and Madison Welch, Brayden Welch and fiancée Kynlee Barnes, Claire Hunt, Colson Welch, Kendall Welch and great-grandsons Braxton, Tucker, Easton, Weston and Lawson. He is also survived by sisters Jerry Cook, Kaye Hanks, Judy and Ron Guthrie, Sue Frymire, brother Doak and Beverly Welch and multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and more.

There wasn’t a better man on this Earth than Dex Welch. We met casually at a daycare center in the early 80s. We started working together in 1985. That lasted off and on for the better part of 25 years. We rode together when we could and our children became great friends as well. I could say a lot more great things about this man, but I will just offer condolences to Doris, Shelby, Colby and the rest of the family. God bless you all.

Dex has been my friend for 67 years. We grew up in the same neighborhood, played sports together and he even conducted my mother's funeral service in 1999. ONE OF THE MEMORIES I HAVE OF DEX IS, HE AND DORIS DANCING, I LOVED WATCHING THEM, BOTH HAD LONG LEGS AND THEY COULD MAKE ANY DANCE LOOK SO GRACEFUL.
