Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 20, 2004 at the First Baptist Church Big Spring with , Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor, officiating and Dr. Randy Cotton and Tim Dunn assisting. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.He was born on January 23, 1985, in Big Spring, Texas.Derek graduated from Big Spring High School in May 2004. He worked for HEB in Austin. He was planning to start school in the near future. Derek enjoyed music, being with friends, video games, golf, hunting and computers. His family was the center of his life.He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Debbie Churchwell of Big Spring; a sister, Chelsea Churchwell of Lubbock; his grandparents, Vaughn and Helen Martin and Tom and Eva Churchwell all of Big Spring; five aunts and uncles, Tommy and Laurie Churchwell and Chris and Lana Churchwell all of Big Spring, Gary and Mina Martin of Burnet, Alan and Lorri Martin of Germany,and Scott and Marie Martin of Dallas; and numerous cousins.Pallbearers will be his cousins, Dustin Martin, Maegan Martin, Logan Churchwell, Tanner Churchwell, and Cameron Churchwell and two roommates, Marcus Chapa and Marcial Chapa. Honorary Pallbearers will be cousins, Cameron Martin, Chance Martin, Justin Martin, Manda Martin, Britta Martin, Madison Churchwell, Lexi Churchwell, Shayla Martin.The family suggests memorials be made to the Juvinile Diabetes Association, ClayDesta Towers, 10 Desta Drive #270 E, Midland, Texas 79705.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
