Delton M. (George) Costlow was born in Fincastle, Texas to Sarah and John Costlow on July 24, 1927. He passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2013 after visiting with friends and walking on the treadmill.George served in the US Navy and graduated from Texas Tech University. He married Helen Pyburn on August 31, 1947 and they had 3 daughters, Linda Crawley, Laura Hall and Judy Harden. Helen passed away at age 38 in 1966 leaving George to raise 3 teenage daughters. He took on the role of mother and father to all of them.George married Beatrice Wrinkle Kitchens on June 17, 1967. She brought 2 sons, Lance and Gary Kitchens, into the family.As County Supervisor for the Farmer’s Home Administration he facilitated loans for farmers in Martin and surrounding counties. After 21 years with the FHA he went to work for Sears, from where he retired.When his good golfing friend, Glen Brown, had a heart attack George decided to take an EMT class so he would be prepared if Glen had another heart attack while they were golfing. After passing the EMT exam in 1990, George volunteered with the Martin County EMS for 20 years, retiring in 2010.George was an elder at the Belvue Church of Christ for many years. He coached Little League and was a Scout Master. As a member of the Lion’s Club for over 50 years, he served on the West Texas Eyeglass Bank, fitting adults & children with donated eyeglasses. He also traveled to Guatemala with the Eyeglass Bank to fit impoverished Guatemalans with eyeglasses. In addition, he served on the Lion’s Club International Eye Bank, providing corneas for the blind for many years. He served in many other capacities with the Lion’s Club including District Governor, Treasurer and Peewee Football announcer. George also touched the lives of numerous people as a substitute teacher and as board member of West Texas Opportunities.George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah Costlow; his wife, Helen Pyburn Costlow; his sisters, Eva Meyrel Richardson and Edna Lee Owens; his brother and sister-in-law, Quienton and Mickie Costlow and his granddaughter, Jennifer Hall.He leaves behind his wife, Beatrice; his three daughters; his two step-sons; five grandchildren, Mandy Malone, Bryan Hall and wife, Peggy, Julie Van Skyock and husband, Eric, Kelly Harden and wife, Jana, and Rebecca Harden; 8 great grandchildren, Chanda, Schon, Nathen, Dylan, Laney, Kassidy, Kaili and Justin and two great great grandchildren, Aspasia and Elija. He was a good & kind man and will live in our hearts forever.Visitation will be from 5PM to 7PM Friday, January 3, 2014 at Gilbreath Funeral Home at 209 N. St. Charles in Stanton.Funeral services will be at 2PM Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Belvue Church of Christ, 1104 Blocker St., Stanton. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.Donations may be made to the Lion’s Club Children’s Camp, 4100 San Antonio Hwy, Kerrville, TX 78028 or the Texas Lion’s Club Eye Glass Recycling Center, 2550 Flynt Ave., Midland, TX 79701.Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
