Watch Video TributeDeLorise (Dee) June Myers Rhodes was born in Neligh, Nebraska to Cotton and Marie Myers on June 8, 1935. DeLorise was known to all of her family and friends as Dee. She lived on her grandparent’s farm in Stuart, Nebraska with her mom, dad and brother Dickie for five years. Some of her most favorite memories are the time she spent with her grandma and grandpa Desive on the farm. They also lived in a lumber camp in Oregon, California and numerous places across Texas and New Mexico. Dee and her family settled down in Sundown, Texas, where she graduated from Sundown High School. She played the saxophone in their band and was very involved in student activities. She later moved to Lubbock where she met one of her lifelong friends Carolyn McDougal of Lubbock. That friendship has lasted over sixty years. She often joked that “people are not supposed to be friends for this long”.Dee met her husband, Sam Rhodes, at a church social and dance in Lubbock, Texas. They were married on November 3, 1962. They had many adventures traveling all over the world and living in places like Neuquen and Mendoza, Argentina, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Tripoli and Benghazi, Libya and Holland. They finally settled down in 1973 and Midland became her home. Her new home will be in heaven because she was definitely our angel.Dee leaves behind her daughter, Stacy Rhodes; and her dog, Buddy; her son, Brett Rhodes, and his wife, Lynn, and their son Dylan. She was very proud of Stacy and Brett. She also really appreciated Lynn for giving her a grandson and being a wonderful mom to Dylan. Dylan was the apple of her eye, she thought he was perfect and loved spoiling him. She also leaves behind her niece, Pamela Myers Bell, and her sons Rick and Brian along with her nephew Joe Myers. Dee adored and cherished her niece Pamela Myers Bell who affectionately referred to her as “Auntie Dee”. She had a very close relationship with her sisters-in-law, Jonnie (Rea) Foreman and Barbara Rhodes, along with her niece, Leslie Rhodes.Dee had many great friends in Midland including, Fran Kenner, Pat Eastup, Betty Calvert, Dorma Ramsey, and Pam Brown. She considered them all as part of her family. Dorma Ramsey and her two sons Stewart and Patrick were definitely extended family. She also had a very special relationship with Pam and Carl Brown her neighbors. Pam and Dee were more like mother and daughter than neighbors. Stacy, Dee’s daughter considers Pam Brown her sister. Pam and husband Carl were always there for her on a moment’s notice. Another great neighbor to Dee was William (BJ) Maddaford, he was Dee’s informal security detail. Dee will be missed soooooo much by her family and friends. She passed away peacefully in her home the morning of October 8, with her daughter and son present. The Rhodes family would like to thank Hospice of Midland for their compassionate support over the last few weeks. We would also like to thank Celestina, Angie, Eufemia, Cecilia, Tania, Mariha, Ruth and Jaynaba, all very loving and compassionate caregivers that have helped our mom over the last few months.
