Delores was born in Big Spring, Texas on December 19, 1941, soon after the United States entered WWII. She was the youngest child of E.C. Howard and Annie Ray Wise Howard, joining the family after her sister, Joyce, turned 10. Mrs. Howard wanted Delores to join her sister in studying music, so she mastered the piano at an early age. She participated in Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star and MYF at the First United Methodist Church. After graduating from Big Spring High School in 1960, she attended Howard College and later transferred to SMU as a Music Major. Here she gained her proficiency playing the organ by practicing on campus and at Lover’s Lane United Methodist Church. After returning to Big Spring, she married Doug Bash, a pilot from Webb AFB, and the couple was relocated to Germany in December 1966. While there, Delores served as the base Chapel Music Director, conducting the children’s choir and managing services each Sunday for many denominations. They returned to the states in 1970 with their newborn daughter, Nicole, and settled in Ohio. In 1976, Delores and Nicole returned to Big Spring where she worked for the State National Bank as a loan clerk and then at Howard College as the Bookstore Manager. She was the choir director and organist for the First Presbyterian Church and then the organist for the First Christian Church.
In 1983 she married Gerald W. Currie (Jerry), and they opened Added Touch Florist in Highland Mall. They enjoyed travelling with friends and playing bridge, often hosting get togethers and holiday celebrations in their home. As active members of the First United Methodist Church, they attended the Epworth Sunday School Class, served Wednesday Noon Bible meals and helped with altar flowers. Delores played the organ as needed and helped lead the Advent Committee. In their retirement, they travelled and created a business buying and selling antiques and vintage collectibles in area antique malls.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerry Currie, and 5 siblings: John (Jay) Howard, Maxine Howard Roberts, Lynn L. (Bill) Howard, Geraldine Howard Parrish and Joyce Howard Bradley.
She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Bash of Dallas, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
