Dedric Beauron Baxter, 79, of Midland passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Hospice Midland Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with David T. Johnson, Associate Pastor, First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 19, 2008, at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 P M.He was born on September 30, 1928, to Dedric and Ava Myrtle Welch in Hillsboro, Texas. He grew up and attended schools in Moody and Gatesville, Texas, before joining the United States Navy at age 16. In the Navy, he was selected for the Submarine Service. He attended TCU and graduated with a degree in Geology. He moved to Midland in 1956 and began his career as a petroleum geologist. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, West Texas Geological Society, and the Society of Petroleum Earth Scientists. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midland.He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ouita Juanita, his infant daughter, Deidra, and sister, Billye Wayne Jeter. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Verneta Waddill Baxter, niece Julia Ann Jeter, nephew Keith Jeter, of Wichita Falls; his brothers-in law, Bill Waddill and wife Diann, and John Waddill and wife Sandy. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, TX 79702, who provided outstanding and caring service during his illness.
