Deborah Kay Moore

Deborah Kay Moore, 65, of Big Spring, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 29, 2024. Viewing will be from 9:00 am until 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 am. A reception will follow the service.

Deborah was born May 1, 1959 in Stanton, Texas to parents Melba Lea West and John Benton Webb. She graduated Valedictorian from Stanton High in 1977. When asked what her plans were for after high school, she replied “God wants me to be a wife and a mother.” That is exactly who she was! She met the love of her life, Johnny, at the age of 16 while working at the Circle Six Baptist Camp. She was working the snack bar and he was there running the sound for the music group performing at the camp. She knew he was the one the minute she laid eyes on him. She immediately formed a connection with him over a conversation about their matching shoes and a Dr. Pepper. She loved Dr. Pepper. Even to the end her beverage of choice was a Dr. Pepper. She married Johnny Clay Moore April 8, 1977 in Stanton, Texas.

Debbie worked at Farm Bureau insurance when found out she was having her first daughter. A week after she was born she cried and said she just couldn’t leave her baby and go back to work to which Johnny replied, “Then you will stay home!” That’s when she became the best mother and housewife in the world. To her she wasn’t cheap she was “thrifty”! Johnny swears she was the original Dave Ramsey. She loved making her monthly meal menu and only grocery shopping once a month. Five years later she welcomed a beautiful son that completed her family. Later on as the kids grew, Debbie took on many positions at Big Spring ISD that lasted for over 20 + years. She may not have had her official certification but there were so many students she would run into in public who would say thank you for being such an amazing “teacher”.

If you were ask anyone who knew Debbie, they would first say that she had the sweetest spirit, she always put God first, selfless, and she was the hardest worker in anything she did. She loved being a Memaw. She loved her friends, family, and anyone she met. She always put everyone before herself. There is not a single doubt about how much she loved the Lord and she was not afraid to show it or tell you all about it. She loved with everything she had. Right now she would be telling you how amazing heaven is and that you need Jesus in your heart.

She is survived by her husband Johnny Clay Moore, Jr. of Big Spring, son Jonathan Moore and wife Brandi of Pointe,Tx. and daughter Laura Lea Barber and husband Donnie of Lenorah, Tx. Five grandchildren Clayton Barber, Willow Moore, Lillie Moore, Carson Barber, and Jameson Moore. Her mother, Melba Webb of Lamesa, Tx.

The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer’s Association and Gentiva Hospice.
