Dean Gilbert Evans, of Midland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the age of 84, surrounded by family. He was very much loved & will be terribly missed by all who knew him.
Dean was born on August 17, 1938, in Billings, Montana to Tom and Susan Evans.
Dean survived polio as a young child and persevered to walk again. He accomplished that and so much more. He grew up in Montana where he helped his family on their ranch and became very good at riding horses. He traded in his horse for a motorcycle and got a dog to help round up the cattle which “cut the work down by three days”. He always believed in working smarter, not harder. While in high school, his family moved to Red Bluff, California where he excelled in education. He was an exceptional football player and graduated from Red Bluff High receiving his high school diploma. He learned how to fly a plane and flew to school on occasion, as well as flying back and forth to Montana. He has always had a great work ethic and learned how to weld exceptionally well. He taught his high school welding teacher all the tricks and did side jobs for him as well. He became a mechanic working on cars and diesel trucks. He even started driving the trucks later when they owned Evans Brothers. He then went on to open Evans Brigham Heavy Equipment Service. You never saw this man without a wrench in his hand. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served for two years in the Special Forces Unit. He was honorably discharged and remained in California where he met his love, Carolyn Lohf. They married in 1971. He had an instant bond with John. In 1972, they welcomed their second child, Tammy. He loved his children with all he had, and was a great, caring, and compassionate father.
He had a heart for youth and troubled teens where he volunteered working with them at Calvary Church. Dean was always a jokester, loved his food and especially his ice cream. God blessed us all and all who knew him as he was a wonderful, loving, compassionate, caring, all around great man. We love you Dad and are going to miss you so much.
Dean leaves behind his son John and wife Crystal Evans of Midland, Texas, and their 5 children: Shawn Evans, CJ Evans, Jessica Willis, Kaytelyn Evans, and Jarod Evans; His daughter, Tammy Evans Ballard of Midland, Texas and her 3 children: Gavin Givens, Shambree Givens, and Sabra Ballard, along with many great-grandchildren.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Susan, and his siblings, Richard Evans and Adriene Evans.
