David Glenn Shoemaker, 64, of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland, with a reception following at The Branch at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.David was born on September 3, 1953 in Midland, Texas to Dorothy Scoggins Mazac and Pete Shoemaker. David lived in Midland most of his life, where he met and married his wife Sylvia on September 17, 1994. David served in the United States Army from 1974-1977. He worked for Southwest Airlines for 19 years, at a job he loved and with others who became a second family to him. David was known by all of his family and friends for his kindness, his good nature and especially for his infectious smile and great hugs. When David and Sylvia were married he jumped right into the role of the best husband and loving father possible. Even thru his illness he maintained his smile and wonderful outlook on life. David loved his family and friends with all of his heart. He will be missed by us all. He loved watching his Dallas Cowboys, working in the yard, and playing with his little dog Patches. Before his illness he spent many hours reading old western novels and especially loved books by J. Evans Haley and Louis L’Amour.David is survived by his loving wife Sylvia; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jennifer Gammage, and their children Haley and Lainey; his son and daughter-in-law Terry and DeLaura Gammage, and their children Jayla and Ruston. David is also survived by parents, Pete and Evelyn Shoemaker; a brother Mike Shoemaker and wife Rusti of Round Rock, Texas, and their children Anna and Scott; a step-brother, Texas Boles of Lafayette, Indiana; along with numerous nieces and nephews and loving relatives and friends. David is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Scoggins Mazac and his sister Bobbie Jean Velasco.The family would like to express their gratitude towards the staff and friends at Senior Care and the staff at Compass Hospice.
