David was born November 6, 1950 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Rudolph and Lillie Wanner. He attended school in Big Spring where he graduated in 1969. He was drafted into the Army in 1970. David married Patsy Marie Collins of Midland on March 26, 1971 and they just celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.
After leaving the Army, David worked from “can ‘till can’t” beginning in the oil fields of West Texas for Western Company of North America in Seagraves, Brownfield, and Kermit. He owned and operated his own trucking company, Wanner Trucking, out of Big Spring for many years and ended his career with Western Container where he was awarded an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii for driving 1 million safe miles. Upon his retirement in 2013, he estimated he had driven over 5 million miles, 200 trips around the equator, or 20 trips to the moon and back, all accident-free, an achievement he was very proud of.
David and Patsy raised two sons, Denny Ray Wanner and Christopher David Wanner in Big Spring. He was a proud member of Trinity Baptist Church of Big Spring. In his free time, David enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.
David is survived by wife, Patsy of Big Spring; son Denny and his wife Susan and their children Elysia and Evan, all of Big Spring; son, Chris and his wife Jana and their children Avery and Emma, all of Lubbock; his sister Marie Irene Niccum of Pampa; and his sister Rudean Terrell and husband Lloyd of Seagraves; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
