I met David at Goddard Junior High in the early 80's, and we continued to go to the same schools through graduation from Lee. I didn't know him that well back then, only that he was the beautiful guy with the beautiful long hair. After 20 years, he signed my guestbook on Classmates.com, out of the blue. I was thrilled to hear from him, to find out he remembered me, and to find out that we had ended up in the same professional field, working with offenders and victims. We messaged through Facebook about our line of work, how we didn't have too many people to talk to and decompress with regarding the topic, and both of us, I think, were relieved to find someone who "got it." I can easily imagine the powerful, positive impact he had on so many lives with his genuine, caring, thoughtful, easy nature. You could read the smile in his voice whenever he wrote a message or made a comment. I consider myself blessed to have had him in my life these few short months. Please accept my deepest sympathies and know that many, many, many people loved and admired David. To say he will be missed is not enough.

My prayers go out to you Laura, Leonard & Jennifer. All of the family will be in my prayers. This great loss of David is very hard for us all to believe because of the great person that he was. David had a great smile and now will be smiling down at you from Heaven. ~God picks a flower ~ Sometimes God picks a flower that's still in full bloom. Sometimes the flower that is chosen, we feel He's picked to soon. We're at peace knowing; in God's heavenly garden, He has placed the ones we treasure. You have changed our lives forever. My heart aches for not being able to be there during your difficult time, My deepest condolences & May the Lord Bless you always.

David was such an amazing, heart warming individual. I met him through the District Attorney's Office just two and a half years ago, and feel like I have known him my whole life. He was always there to help me professionally with my cases to help me understand how to help the victims through the process and put on the best possible case so justice could be served. However, he also counseled me personally through a very rough time, and I would not be where I am today without his encouraging words and kind spirit. I will never forget him, and he will always hold a very special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and other clients. He touched so many lives, and will continue to do so from heaven.

The loss of David is very hard to cope with. He left many people suffering for his abscence. I believe many have described him as a very easy-going person always ready to help. During the time he supervised me at the Midland Parole office, I never once saw him lose his temper. He always had a smile on his face. That is how I will remember him always. David: May you rest in peace and God bless you and keep you with Him.
Jane Belazi left a message on May 12, 2009:
I was fortunate to get to know David because he counselled the sexaully abused children of defendant's we prosecuted here in the D.A.'s office. He also helped counsel my family through personal hardships. Our hearts are broken, as we remember his smile, the sparkle in his eye, his easy manner, his always being there. He was always willing to help anyone, at any moment, and made you feel as if you were the only one, even though many, many people depended on him. He never rushed, and he made each of us feel important. He was our strength, our safety net. I can't think of life without him. We loved him very much. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to Laura and Leonard Hernandez, his wonderful parents. You raised a truly heavenly son, that we are so grateful that we got to know, even though we now struggle wtih how to continue without him. Our prayers and heartfelt sympathy go out to Wendy and his children. We pray that God will give you His strength and love to make it day by day. We know he loved you very much. With much love and sympathy, Jane Belazi and family

David was a wonderful friend and supervisor. We began working at the Parole Office in Midland in 1997 and left at the same time in 2003. Can't believe he's gone. David was very loved by all and admired for his ability to try and resolve everything. He had a great personality and many laughs were shared by us. I pray that his family will remember that he was loved by us as well by you all. I pray for his sons and daughters that he spoke of often. Easy to see why he continued to try and help others. He was loved and he is missed already.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes to his parents Laura & Leonard Hernandez, and to his wife and children. We would like to share the following poem that gave us much comfort in in our time or sorrow. In Loving Memory Of David Ray Hernandez When Tomorrow Starts Without Me Written by David M. Romano When tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see; If the sun should rise and find your eyes, all filled with tears for me. I wish so much you wouldn't cry, the way you did today, while thinking of the many things, we didn't get to say. I know how much you love me as much as I love you, and each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too. But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an Angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand. And said my place was ready, in Heaven far above, and that I'd have to leave behind, all those I dearly love. But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye, for all my life, I'd always thought, I didn't want to die. I had so much to live for, so much yet to do, it seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you. I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad, I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had. If I could relive yesterday, just even for awhile, I'd say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile. But then I fully realized, that this could never be, for emptiness and memories, would take the place of me. And when I thought of worldly things I might miss come tomorrow, I thought of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow. But when I walked through Heaven's gates, I felt so much at home. When God looked down and smiled at me, from His great golden throne, He said, This is Eternity, and all I've promised you; today, for life on Earth is past, but here it starts anew. I promise no tomorrow but today will always last, and since each day's the same day, there's no longing for the past. But you have been so faithful, so trusting and so true. Though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn't do. But you have been forgiven and now at last you're free. So won't you take My hand and share My life with me? So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right here, in your heart.

David was my first date to homecoming at Lee High School. He was such a gentleman and so mature for a guy of 14 or 15. It doesn't surprise me that he helped victims of abuse and crisis. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
