David L. Newton, 72, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, January 1, 2005, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Pat Ray, pastor of Prairie View Bpatist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.He was born on August 30, 1932 in Dawson County, Texas to B. M. and Bernice Newton. He married Jean Brigance on December 20, 1951 at the Prairie View Baptist Church in Howard County.David farmed and ranched in Howard County all his life and was awarded the Conservation Rancher of the Year in 1988. He served on the Board of Directors of the Howard County Farm Bureau numerous years and on the Texas State Farm Bureau Committee Beef Advisory Board. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching his grandsons play football and baseball. He also enjoyed drinking coffee with his many friends. He was a Baptist.Survivors include his wife, Jean Newton of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Crol and David Callaway of Big Spring; two sons and daughters-in-law, D. L. and Marcia Newton and Tim and Debbie Newton all of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Keith and Kyle Newton and Austen, Andrew and Katie Newton all of Big Spring and Melissa Harris and her husband, Paul, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two great grandchildren, Karissa and Katy Marie and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.David was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill and Norman Newton.Pallbearers will be Keith Newton, Kyle Newton, Austen Newton, Andrew Newton, Jim Fryar, Glen Cole, Tommy Wegner and Kneel Stallings. Honorary pallbearers will be Bennie Hofacket, Delbert Donelson, Bob Horn, Ray Russell, Wayne Davis, Joe Barnes and David Barnes.The family suggests memorials to the donnor's favorite charity.,
