Saddened at your loss. We hold many fond memories of our children playing together as they grew up. Watching the kids swim every day during the summer and also being in Church together at 14th and Main, brings many thoughts of joy. Our family's thoughts and prayers are with you.

Evelyn, we are sorry to learn about David's passing. It brought back memories when we first met you all. Memories of our first and only home in Big Spring which we bought from you on West 16th St. How we miss Big Spring!. We moved to Tempe, AZ 8 years ago. Our younger son, Van, lives here. He said he was tired of flying back to Texas to check on us. When I fell and broke my right leg in l999 that was the "breaking" factor causing us to move. Our other son lives in Arkansas. We too married in l946. Our prayers are with you. As ever, Ben and Geraldine Johnson

I remember your dad. Wasn't he our football announcer? Did he have a radio program? He was a good man. I thank God for how he raised you!
Beth Cook left a message on November 30, -0001:
David, was like a father to me especially after I lost mine three years ago. He was a teacher and a great christian role model for all of us at 14th and Main. I will never forget the year we were building an African hut in the Elrods on 3rd street when the back wall caved in from all the rain and we spent the rest of the afternoon lifting furniture out of harms way and sweeping water out the front door. We all laughed and cried after that. David and Evelyn were always involved with church, band and choir activites and were the neatest people to be around. He will truely be missed. Evelyn, Karen, Dee and Jon our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May God's love and grace be with you. Anything that I can do for any of you please do not hesitate to ask. Sincerely, Beth Cook & Johnnie Weeks
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Evelyn (Tootsie), I am so sorry for your loss but the saints in Heaven are singing joyously to receive such a good man. I run into Joan and Frank frequently in Sweetwater. Give Gail my love. I did not realize that I was only 4 when you and David got married, it was the first wedding I remember, but I remember thinking it was so "grand"! and that you were just so beautiful and David was so very handsome! I always idolized you and thought that David was certainly a very lucky man. No wonder he was such a good man..............he had a good wife! The only trouble was that he took you so far away.........all the way over to Big Springs! My love to you all.............for 16 years the Barfield's were just like family and kept me "rooted" thru some very hard times. Thank you for being a part of my life. You and your family shall be in my prayers, Carole

I read of Mr. Elrod's passing in the Abilene newspaper today. I will always remember Mr. Elrod as a very strong influence in that he taught me to jump and get busy when the boss is around. I will be praying for Mrs. Elrod, Dee, and the rest of the family. We know David is in heaven and experiencing wonderful things beyond our imagination, but it's still hard to lose a loved one. I am teaching English and coaching football in Abilene, and believe it or not, staying out of trouble. Thanks for letting me work at Elrod's. I often think back to my time there. I remember we laughed a lot and Elrod's was a great place to work. The Elrod family was very good to me and I appreciate you. Sincerely, Gary Vaughn
