Daryl Lee Henderson

Daryl Lee Henderson, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Midland, Texas, on July 26, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Daryl was born on November 11, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, to Richard and Irma Henderson. He was raised in Whittier, California, alongside his siblings, Richard, Daniel, and Peggy. He attended Whittier High School before continuing his education at Long Beach State University, Brigham Young University, and Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago, where he graduated in 1974.

From 1966 to 1968, Daryl faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States Mission. Shortly after returning home, he married his sweetheart, Carmen DeLange, on August 24, 1968, in the Manti Utah Temple for time and all eternity.

Their love story began years earlier. In 1960, at the age of 14, Daryl attended Koos Camp in Koosharem, Utah, a summer camp where city kids learned how to be cowboys. Although he enjoyed the cowboy lessons, he returned each summer for another reason—the sweet girl he met there, Carmen. She would become his one true love and devoted companion for nearly 58 years.

After graduating from dental school, Daryl practiced dentistry in Lubbock, Texas, from 1974 to 1998. There he and Carmen raised their family, and he faithfully served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including seminary teacher, Sunday School teacher, high councilor, bishop, stake athletic director, and nursery leader. His young nursery students especially loved that he always had a treat to share.

In 1986, Daryl was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. With remarkable faith, courage, and good humor, he endured the challenges of the disease for many years. He loved scuba diving with Carmen in the Grand Cayman Islands, family ski trips, reading Louis L’Amour novels, and learning about history. He affectionately called Dr Pepper “the healing herb” and never met a hamburger he didn’t like. His wit, infectious smile, and delightfully corny jokes never left him, even during difficult days.

Many who knew Daryl remember not only his cheerful disposition but also the peace and spiritual strength they felt in his presence. His relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. Though his body experienced great pain, his spirit remained full of faith and hope. The gospel of Jesus Christ was central to everything he did, and he lived it with quiet devotion. His testimony blessed his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Daryl is survived by his beloved wife, Carmen; his children, Daryl, Jeff (Lori), Julie (Brock Lovett), and Mark; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild expected soon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4805 Gateway Street, Midland, Texas 79707.
