D’Ann Forbish Norwood
D’Ann Forbish Norwood, a devoted wife, loving mother and treasured friend, passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 57, surrounded by her family.
D’Ann radiated grace and kindness to everyone she met. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel special, and she filled the lives of those around her with joy. Her deep faith and devotion to family and friends shaped the way she lived.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, D’Ann moved with her family to Houston, Texas, in 1976. She graduated from Klein High School in 1987 and from Texas Tech University in 1991 with a degree in finance. At Texas Tech in 1988, she met the love of her life, John Norwood of Midland. They married in 1992 and spent 34 years building a life centered on faith, family and love.
Being a wife and mother was her greatest joy. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising their three sons, William, Andrew and Philip, and took great pride in every stage of their lives. She served as a room mother, cheered from the bleachers at their games, and supported them in all their endeavors. She had a gift for turning everyday moments into traditions, from homemade whoopie pies on the first day of every school year to decorating the house for every occasion. Nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with them.
Faith was the foundation of her life. A member of First Baptist Church of Midland for more than 30 years, D’Ann was active in the Nehemiah Sunday School Department and took part in many of the church’s ministries. She recently completed a three-year Bible study with Strategic Ministries International alongside a small group of women who became her prayer partners. D’Ann always put the needs of others before her own.
D’Ann gave generously of her time to the community. She served on the board of the Racquet Club of Midland and on the Trustees’ Council of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., while supporting many other local organizations in Midland.
She cherished her friendships. An avid reader, she belonged to a Midland book club for more than 25 years. She also shared morning jogs with the same group of women, building friendships that extended far beyond the miles they ran. She loved to travel and to play tennis, bridge and Rummikub. Summers and holidays in Aspen were especially meaningful to her, filled with skiing, hikes on Hunter Creek and plenty of pickleball, including multiple club championships. Fiercely competitive, she loved to win, as anyone who ever played against her can attest.
D’Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Fredna Boyd Forbish and Ray Forbish of Houston, and by her parents-in-law, Frank and Judy Norwood of Midland.
She is survived by her beloved husband, John Russell Norwood; their three sons, William Thomas Norwood of Houston, Andrew John Norwood of Midland, and Philip James Norwood of Houston; her sister, Rae Marie Liddell, and her husband Alistair of London, England; her brother, John Boyd Forbish of Alpine, California; and her stepmother, Sherry Reeves, and her husband Bob of Houston. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jeff Norwood, and his wife Gabrielle of Austin; her sister-in-law, Julie Brown, and her husband Bill of Louisville, Kentucky; many beloved nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of dear friends.
Her legacy lives on in her family and friends, and in all the lives made brighter by having known her.
A memorial service celebrating D’Ann’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in Midland, Texas, on October 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with Dr. Gary Dyer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in D’Ann’s memory to the Midland Memorial Hospital Foundation, 400 Rosalind Redfern Grover Parkway, Midland, Texas 79701.
