Daniel Mendez, Jr., 72 of Midland, Texas, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024. Visitation is scheduled at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home for Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 8 am to 9pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, July 17 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.
Daniel was born in Big Lake, Texas to Guadalupe and Daniel S. Mendez, Sr. Daniel attended Reagan County Schools and was an outstanding basketball player. His work life began early, starting with picking and chopping cotton, mowing lawns, helping his dad cleaning offices, and working as a stocker and checker at a local grocery store. He enlisted in the Army and served three years, he served stateside and in Korea. He moved to Midland in 1981 and worked with the U. S. Postal Service for 30 years. Daniel liked sports and enjoyed playing pick-up games of basketball with friends, and he was quite the racquetball player. His catholic faith was important to him; he was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and attended daily mass when he could.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Mendez, Sr. and Guadalupe Mendez.
He is survived by two sons, Danny Mendez and wife Tamie of Arlington, TX., and Eric Mendez of Midland; his siblings, Hector Mendez and wife Rose, David Mendez (his twin brother), Veronica Mendez, Ernestine Mendez and husband Mike, Adrian Mendez and wife Clara, Fernando Mendez, Gabriel Mendez and wife Lee Ann, Ed Mendez and wife Cindy, and Mitch Mendez and wife Diana; and 21 nieces and nephews.
Daniel found joy in the world around him and the company of loved ones. His presence will be greatly missed, but those who had the privilege of knowing him will always cherish his memory. May he rest in eternal peace.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to everyone for their kind words, prayers, support, food and love offered during this trying time. The kindness in this difficult time will not be forgotten.
