Daniel Blake Proffitt passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 68 on February 22, 2021.
He was born on September 8, 1952, in Big Spring, Texas to Buddy and Sue Proffitt and he was the youngest of two children. Dan was born and raised in west Texas and graduated from Big Spring High School where he met and fell in love with his wife, Lynda.
Together, Dan and Lynda had multiple ventures that culminated into Proffitt Daycare, which the two of them ran for 25 years. Dan and Lynda helped raise a generation of kids around Big Spring and were able to touch the hearts of countless more throughout both their lives. Dan was known to “wear many hats”, to some he was a painter, to others a barber, but everyone knew him as a friend they could talk to. He never met a stranger and was always the brightest light in the room. Quite the comedian he was, as he was always sure to have everyone around him laughing and there was never a dull moment when Dan was around. He had great compassion for everyone, would never hesitate to lend a helping hand and always preached to stick up for the underdog. He was very active in his three grandchildren’s lives and truly loved his family. He knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and looked forward to spending eternity in Heaven. He was a one-of-a-kind son, father, grandfather, and friend. We are certain there will never be another man like him and he will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Buddy Proffitt, his brother, David Proffitt, and his wife of 36 years, Lynda Proffitt. He is survived by his mother, Sue Hoosier; daughter, Shawn Hatfield and her husband Vince; son Blake Proffitt and his wife Blayr; three grandchildren, Joshua Hatfield and his fiancé Savannah Tucker, Zachary Hatfield and his fiancé Elle Torres, and Emily Dunn and her husband Brad; three nephews Rick Proffitt, Jay Proffitt and Seth Proffitt.
A memorial service will be held at Local’s Deli at 1600 Wasson Rd. on Saturday, February 27th at 12 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to Operation Orphans, www.operationorphans.org/donations.
