Dalton D. "D. D." Johnston, 87, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, September 28, 2006, in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.He was born on March 21, 1919, in Dunn, Texas and married Lois G. Ingram on December 7, 1940 in Rankin, Texas. She preceded him in death on October 11, 2004. D. D. came to Big Spring with his family in 1929 from Colorado City. He had owned and operated Johnston Construction and helped in the construction of the Rosewood Chapel at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. D. D. had served on the City Council from 1987 to 1991 and on the Howard County Appraisal Board for 8 years. He had worked with the Boy Scouts for many years.D. D. was a member of the First Baptist Church, served as a Deacon for over 40 years and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and had served as President and Lt. Governor. He served in the United States Army during World War II.Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Sharon Johnston of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Janet Mounier and husband, Mike of Los Alemetos, California, Jeff Johnston of Fort Collins, Colorado, Linnea Falk and husband, Anthony of Austin, Stefan Balderach and wife, Tracy of New York, New York, Mikael Balderach of Austin and Markus Balderach and wife, Lauren of Dallas, and one great granddaughter, Zailey Falk. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Marshall Weldon Johnston and Clyde C. Johnston. The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 705 W.
