Our Beloved Husband, Brother, Dad and Grandale entered Heaven’s Gates and joined his Heavenly Father Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Larry Dale Worthan was born in the country outside of Levelland, Hockley County in Texas on September 28, 1938 to Earl and Hazel Worthan. He was 3 months old before they traveled to town to take him to the doctor to register his birth and give him a name. For the first 3 months of his life, they called him Butch. When he was about 5 months old, the family moved to the farming communities of New Deal and Abernathy. In 1972, after farming several years with his Father, they quit the farming business and he changed professions. Dale moved his family to Big Spring to start a career at Bob Brock Ford as a Salesman and Fleet Manager. He loved his customers and took pride in serving them. A satisfied customer brought such joy to him. Most of his customers would say that he would have given them the coat off his back if they really needed it. He finally retired completely in 2010 after many loyal years. However, customers still called him to take care of them and he would go back down to the dealership to help.
Dale has been a member of First Baptist Church, Big Spring since 1974. He was a member of the Abernathy Masonic Lodge receiving the honor of Master Mason and spent a short time as a Shriner.Dale played Santa Clause for over 50 years in Abernathy, Big Spring and St. Lawrence. As far as the family is concerned, He is Santa and we still believe! He was Santa for many years for the Big Spring Christmas parade. Dale also played Santa for the first Living Christmas Tree at the First United Methodist Church in Big Spring. He would say, “It was an honor to be asked to share Santa experiences with families.”Dale loved sports, from his days of playing basketball in the 5th grade through high school to watching his kids and grandkids play sports. He traveled many years with the Big Spring High School Band as a sponsor while his kids participated. Dale loved his many years he spent refereeing football and basketball all over the Panhandle of Texas. Dale also enjoyed the many years he spent on the air of KBST announcing the play by play of the Big Spring Steer football games and Howard College Hawk Basketball games beside Winston Wrinkle.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Isabel Garcia Worthan, his children, Sonya Metcalf, Tammy and Jack Lockhart of Big Spring, Rory Worthan of Midland and Isaac Garcia of Big Spring; his sister and husband, Earlene and Kenneth Boothe of Big Spring; a sister-in-law, Ann Worthan of Midland; his father-in-law, Jesse Garcia & Sally and eight grandkids, Morgan Metcalf of Arlington; Clint and Aly Lockhart of Crowley; Whitney and Ryan Rodriguez of Midland; Clay Lockhart of Plainview; McKenzi Metcalf of Plainview and Drake Worthan of Big Spring.
