Daisy Wynell Rickey, 87, of Midland, Texas passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Wynell was born in Stephens County, Oklahoma, on March 24, 1935. Wynell graduated high school in Velma, Oklahoma. She met and married William Rickey in 1953. They had three children and were married 61 years. The family moved to Midland in 1970, and she called Midland home from that point on. She worked in retail until she retired in 1990, then continued to work at the VFW for several years.
The last few years, Wynell enjoyed spending her time with her children, five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was a voracious reader and she never missed a chance to play bingo – winning most of the time! Wynell was a long-time member (44 years) of the American Legion Auxiliary Woods W. Lynch Unit 19 of Midland, and a member of the Auxiliary of The Veterans of Foreign War Post 41419 in Midland. She served in several capacities and was always willing to help with Veteran causes. She truly loved her VFW and American Legion friends whom she considered to be her extended family. Wynell was loved and admired by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Rickey and wife Deborah, and Glen Rickey, both of Midland, TX; grandchildren, Christian Shaun Hollums of The Woodlands, Texas, Stephanie and husband Jimmie Williams of Greenville, South Carolina, Rachel and husband John Mark Hopper of Midland, Texas, Elizabeth and husband Mark Senior of Austin, Texas, and Will Rickey and wife Leloni of Georgetown, Texas; great grandchildren, Maximos Hollums, Christopher, Sloane, Stella, and Jimmie V Williams, Atticus, Rowan and Skyler Senior, Devon Becker and Grayson Rickey; brother Wendell Stephens and wife Sue of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Oren and Elva Lee Stephens; her husband William E. Rickey; her brother Wayne Stephens; and her daughter, Karen W. Rickey.
Pallbearers will be William Rickey, Craig Stephens, Scott Stephens, Fidel Barela, USMC, Glenn Smith, USN, Mike Dunlap, USAF.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
