Dan O'Neal was born January 11, 1922 in Doerun, Georgia to Yancey W. O'Neal and Mary O'Neal, and died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the age of 86.Having grown up in St. Petersburg, Florida, he left and joined the armed forces in 1940. During his time of service, he was stationed at locations in Texas, Louisiana and California. While stationed at Ft. Hood, he met and later married Pauline Wiley.Following his service in the army, Dan attended and received a civil engineering degree from Texas A&M; and in 1950, he and Pauline moved to Odessa, where he began his engineering career as City Engineer for the city of Odessa. Many years later, he also served as project engineer for locations at Rio Rancho and Cochiti Lake, New Mexico.Mr. O'Neal was a 32nd degree Mason and was one of the original petitioners for the Lodge in Odessa, now known as H.A. McFarland Lodge 1338.Mr. O'Neal was preceded in death by his parents, Yancey and Mary O'Neal, his wife of 58 years Pauline O'Neal, his brother J.D. O'Neal and sister Jewel Chancey.His is survived by his daughter, Pat Barton and husband David of Odessa; granddaughter Tracy Leak and husband Jeff of Highland Village; great-grandchildren Russell and Kayla Leak of Highland Village and great-great granddaughter Gwyn Leak of Highland Village. Additionally, 38 years ago when Dan welcomed his son-in-law David into his family, he acquired two grandsons, Daylan and Darren Barton and subsequently, great grandchildren Chris, Ashlee, Dylan, Logan, Mackinzie and Morgan and great-great granddaughters Madison and Kendall.Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 am, Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Wilshire Park Baptist Church in Midland with Dr. Steve Tims officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
