After a formidable two year battle with cancer, The Lord summoned one of his children home Saturday, September 29, 2012. Cynthia Kay Cherry (Cindy) was dearly loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her and even those who had just come to meet her. The last two years of her life were no comparison to the 50 years before. She was very proud of being an extraordinary wife and mother. She had tremendous artistic and athletic talent.Cindy left behind her husband; Roy Cherry, who cared for her compassionately throughout their 34-1/2 year marriage. She also leaves behind two children; Roy Lee (Trey) Cherry III (and spouse Amanda Cherry), Jennifer Lee Cherry (and spouse Scott Wilson), and three grandchildren; Gunner Lee Cherry, Maycee Lee Wilson, and Christopher Sterling Wilson. Other survivors include her sister Kimberly Diane Nugent (and spouse Buddy Nugent), a brother R.D. Brewer (and spouse Charlotte), two nieces; Codi Lynn Nugent, Cassi Jo Nugent, great-nephew; Tristan James (TJ) Poland, and several aunts and uncles.Cindy was the 'cement' that held her family together. So many have shared stories and memories of kindness that she paid them throughout her lifetime. She loved helping others. She was known for her delicious cookies and other mouth-watering treats. In addition to baking, Cindy enjoyed yard work, flower gardening, and especially caring for and spoiling her grandchildren. Artistically, Cindy was talented in creating crosses, crocheting, painting, and various other projects. She was also extremely athletic, having played basketball and track in high school and realizing state recognition in both. When grandchildren came, a new light ignited in Cindy's life. She was a huge part of her grand children's lives. They loved to play with their "Lu Lu". Even in her recent struggle, her grandchildren brought tremendous joy to her life. Born in Pecos, Texas on January 14, 1959. She was raised in Midland and graduated from Greenwood High School. She is preceded in death by her mother, Billie Dean Brewer, her father, Roy Brewer, Jr., and her brother, Danny Dale Brewer.Although, the adventure we shared with Cindy ("Mom", "Lulu", or "Cindy-Lou-Who") ended far too soon, we may take comfort in knowing that the sickness she endured for so long is at last relieved. Once again Cindy is happy and vibrant. We know she is watching-over us from above. Thanks to all friends, family, everyone at Midland Memorial Hospital, and Hospice of Midland for their strong support, love, and tender care for Cindy and us throughout this devastating time. Your prayers and encouragement have meant so much and have been motivation to continue pressing onward. Memorial visitation will be Wednesday, October 3, 2012, 7 pm to 9 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Cindy will be laid to rest at Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Midland, Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 10 am, with Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. Honorary pallbearers are John Casbeer, James Daughtry, David Hamilton, Kirk Hamilton, Buddy Nugent, Ricky Sanford, and Jackie Wilson.
