Our friend, Cung Awr passed away Monday, December 7, 2009 surrounded by his brothers and sisters of the Midland Chin Christian Fellowship. Cung was born in Than Tlang Township in the Chin State of Burma (Myanmar) on February 20, 1964. Cung was a farmer in Burma. Cung immigrated to America in November 2007. He first resided in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Midland in February 2008. Cung was very active in the Midland Chin Christian Fellowship where he served as a deacon and the assistant treasurer. Cung is survived by a wife, six children, and several grandchildren. His wife, Lal Num Hnem and youngest child, Esther live in a small village in India. The children from a previous marriage, Tuan Kam, Rual Tei Tang, Za Lian Thang, Dawt Thin Hnem, and Ni Lin live in Burma and Malaysia. Cung had always hoped that someday his family could join him in the United States. A memorial service to celebrate Cung's life will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Reverends Ngun Awi, Steve Schorr, and Thomas Lobaugh will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven North Cemetery. The services will be conducted in Chin and English as per Cung's wishes. Memorials can be directed to the Midland Chin Christian Fellowship. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
