Cruz Nuñez, 82, of Midland, Texas passed away peacefully on September 13, 2023. Cruz was born in Fort Stockton Texas on April 7, 1941 to Sipriano Nuñez and Jesusita Valenzuela Nunez.
He married his childhood love, Socorro Quiroz Nuñez on June 8, 1963 in Midland, Texas and was happily married for over 60 years. He was a devoted husband and father, both he and Socorro worked hard together to build a beautiful life for each other and their children.
As a young man he worked alongside his father as a truck driver in the family gravel and salvage yard business. He worked for the post office for 42 years until he retired. He had an amazing smile and was known for his kind and gentle nature. He was affectionately known as “Bito” to his family. He was very active with his church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, where he taught the youth catechism classes, counseled couples in marriage encounter and volunteered in the annual church fair.
After he retired, he kept himself busy volunteering with Helping Hands where he drove the truck picking up donations, which reminded him of his days working with his dad. His favorite season was football season and he was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. In his free time, he loved spending time with his family and friends and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He took pride in his garden where he grew tomatoes and jalapeños for his chili.
Cruz is survived by his loving wife Socorro Quiroz Nuñez; his two children; daughter Selena and husband Roger Prachyl of Arlington, TX and son Mark and wife Martha Nuñez of Midland, Texas, as well as his grandchildren, Danielle and husband Josh Lopez of Aubrey, Texas, Kerani Nuñez of Midland, Texas, and his great grandchildren Micah and Madison Lopez. He is also survived by his sisters Lydia Padilla and Chavela Gonzalez of Midland, Texas.
