Connie Wayne Key

Connie Wayne Key, 88, passed away on June 25, 2026, in Big Spring, Texas. Viewing will be from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 29, 2026 at Mount Olive Memorial Park with Doug Shelley, pastor of East Side Baptist Church, officiating.

Connie was born on July 28, 1937, in Hext, Texas, to Earnest and Dorothy Key.

Connie spent his childhood in Hext, Texas, and attended school in Menard before moving to Big Spring during his senior year of high school. He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1956 and proudly called Big Spring home for the rest of his life.

On March 10, 1957, Connie married the love of his life, Elma Lou. Together they shared 69 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, and lasting memories.

Connie worked for Forsan Oil Well Service Co. for many years before retiring from Freecom in 1999.

Connie lived a life centered on family, friendship, and enjoying the simple things. He loved his family deeply and treasured time spent with those he loved. He enjoyed sharing stories, gathering with family, and creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

One of Connie’s greatest passions was black powder shooting. He was one of the founders of the Howard County Muzzleloaders Gun Club and enjoyed attending primitive rendezvous events that celebrated the traditions and lifestyle of early America. He especially enjoyed competing in shooting events, visiting with friends, and helping organize club activities. The friendships, traditions, and memories he made through the club became an important part of his life.

Connie is survived by his beloved wife, Elma Lou Key; his son, Randy Key and wife Jennifer; his grandchildren, Robin Hirt and husband Chad, and Jason Key; his great-grandchildren, Neely Key, Bryson Hirt, Kylee Key, Kymbree Hirt, and Wacey Key; and his great-great-granddaughter, Teagan Crews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Dorothy Key, and his sister, Frankie Hazelwood.

Connie will be remembered for his love of family, the friendships he built throughout his life, and the many memories he created.
