Connie Freeman Lewis flew home to her Lord and savior in the wee hours of Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the age of 68 following a fierce struggle with cancer. She was eager to reunite with her son who predeceased her by several years, as she yearned for him every day that he was not with her.Connie, Elaine to her close family, was born November 21, 1946 in Brownfield, Texas to Willis and Dorthie Freeman. Connie attended high school in Midland, Texas and married at a young age to follow her heart’s desire to be a wife and mother. Connie was devoted to her family. She not only raised two wonderful people to adulthood but stood in as mother, mentor and friend to many in her family and community. Connie was a gentle, tender soul touching lives and ministering to others every day of her journey. Connie worked many years at JC Penney and will be remembered fondly by the hundreds of co-workers and customers she was kind to. Connie was romantic and had a child-like awe and appreciation of life and the mysteries attached to life. Although she will be missed dreadfully by those privileged to have known her, she would not want anyone to waste time crying but to remember that life is a gift and to treasure every moment.Connie is survived by her daughter Sheri Nanson and husband, Frank, by her sister Linda Freeman, by her brother Kenneth Freeman and wife, Nancy and numerous nieces and nephews and by her beloved companion and fiancé, Robert Lathrop. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Steve Bristol. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials can be donated to Compass Hospice, 1330 E 8th St Ste 102, Odessa, TX 79761. One final note: the family would like to express heart-felt gratitude to the staff of Compass Hospice who went far beyond a simple ”job description” to help us in this difficult time. Connie was able to complete her journey here on earth and move on in dignity, comfort and the care of people who loved her.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
