C. J. Thomason, 71, of Midland, known to family and close friends as \Clynton Joe\, peacefully slipped away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 3:00PM at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 3114 Travis Ave. in Midland.C. J. was born on August 19, 1942 to Jimmy and Alice Thomason of Lahey, Texas, the youngest of five children. He attended Wellman I.S.D. He inherited his father's love of the land and worked as a farmer for 30 plus years before retiring and beginning a new career with the City of Midland, retiring again in 2007. C. J. enjoyed his pets, fishing, traveling and socializing with friends and family. His pleasant demeanor, ready wit and quick smile garnered him a great many friends of all ages. A member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, his habit of always carrying candy for the children earned him the nickname of \The Candy Man\ at the Church and made him very popular among parishioners both young and old. Ever young at heart, C. J. once responded to a question about his \growing up\ with a wry smile and a reply of \I hope I never do!\ To his very great credit, he never did.C. J. is survived by Patsy Thomason, his wife of 26 years; son, Shannon Thomason and wife Emily of Big Spring; daughter, Melissa Wood of San Angelo; step-son, Donald Keith Muse and step-daughter, Tamra Muse; grandchildren, Melodie Wood, Staci Rivera and Tiffany Grimes, 6 beloved great grandchildren, numerous \grand-dogs\ and \grand-cats\ and a world of friends who all mourn his passing.In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the A.S.P.C.A. and/or to the American Cancer Society.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
