Clyde McMahon, Sr., 91, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM Friday, June 28, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born on February 21, 1911 in Newport, Jack County, Texas. Clyde married Bonnie Lee Hay and she preceded him in death. He then married Ruth Keever Currie on September 13, 1958 in Big Spring and she preceded him in death on July 31, 1993. He completed his high school education in Hereford, Texas in 1931, attended Texas Tech University in 1931 for one year and attended Draughons Business College in Lubbock in 1933. He started his own business producing material for the Texas Highway Department in 1947 and formed Ready Mix Concrete Business in Big Spring in 1953. He was the first person to serve two years as President of the Big Spring YMCA from 1955-1956, served 20 years on the Board of Directors, served for eight years on the Planning and Building Committee for the current YMCA building, was a delegate to the Southwest Area Councils of the YMCA for eight years, a delegate to National Councils of YMCA for four years and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Southwest Area of YMCA's in 1962. Clyde served as president of the Texas Ready Mix Association in 1962; as president of American Business Club in 1957, president of United Fund of Big Spring, Texas in 1958, president of the Big Spring Chamber of Commerce and received the Outstanding Service Award to the Community from the Big Spring Chamber of Commerce in 1974 and was Big Spring Man of the Year in 1972. He served on the Big Spring Independent School Board for 5 1/2 years and as president for 3 1/2 years from 1958-1963, served as a director of the First National Bank of Big Spring, Texas since 1960, and served on the Salvation Army Board for many years. He served many years on the Official Board and as Chairman of the Finance Committee of the First United Methodist Church of Big Spring and as treasurer for the last seven years. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Big Spring Rotary Club in 1965, the Outstanding Citizenship Award from the American Legion Post #355 in 1977-1978 and the Outstanding Citizenship Award for the Big Spring Evening Lions in 1978. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Clyde, Jr. and Beverly McMahon of Big Spring; two grandsons and their wives, Craig and Molly McMahon of San Antonio and Cavan and Donna McMahon of Big Spring; four great grandchildren, Carly and Kate McMahon of Big Spring and Ryan and Rachel McMahon of San Antonio and several nieces and nephews, including, James Norman and Peggy McMahon of San Angelo and Jim Bo McMahon of Lubbock. He was also preceded in death by one son, Cecil McMahon. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Taylor, John Currie, R. H. Weaver, Jim Bill Little, A. K. Guthrie and Bill Pollard. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Shaffer, Stanley Knight, Sarge Strickland, Sonny Price, Bobby Price, Wendall Campbell, Riley Faulkner, Marvin Callahan, J. C. Burchett, Bobby Roman, Paschall Odom, Jimmy Johnson, Richard Knocke, James Weaver, Billy Joe Kilpatrick, Mary Anna Jones, Kate Irons, Sue Guthrie, Barbara Gage, Katie Grimes, Marguerite Schwarzenbach, Winnie Patterson, Patty Rodgers, and Liz Trotter. Mr. Mc was blessed with many friends of all ages to numerous to list, all of whom loved him and serve in their hearts as honorary pallbearers.
