Clyde M. Smith, 86, of Midland, died on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 24, 2009 at Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, with Rev. Ty Morris and Rev. Eddie Blakley, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.He was born April 6, 1923, in Lehigh, Oklahoma. He married Mildred Wallis on May 23, 1947 in Borger, Texas. Clyde served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tank driver in Africa and Italy. He worked as an Electrical Engineer and worked for General Electric in Dallas and then later worked and served as a Vice President of Shermco Industries, also in Dallas. He retired in 1987 and he and his wife moved to Midland.Survivors include his wife, Mildred Smith of Midland; one daughter, Krista Blakley of Kyle, Texas; one son, Dennis Smith of Whitesboro, Texas; six grandchildren; two brothers, Tuffy Smith and Buster Smith both of Salem, Arkansas; four sisters, Almeta Blue of Granbury, Texas, Vanita Harris and Loreta Davis both of Salem, Arkansas, and Lee Stephens of Lake Montezuma, Arizona.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
