Clyde Earl Spaulding a long time resident of Midland, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born May 17, 1933 to Horace and Pauline Spaulding and was raised in Fort Worth, Texas. Clyde left school (Poly Tech High School) and was honored to serve his country. He joined the armed forces during the Korean conflict. He served 2 years in the Army National Guard and then 4 years in the Air Force in Alaska. He was discharged in 1956. Clyde met Shirley Campbell and they married in 1957. He later received his high school diploma.Clyde’s career began in law enforcement in 1957 with the Midland Police Department. He spent 20 years working with juveniles as a SGT, later as the LT. of the Juveniles Division. Clyde graduated from the “Delinquency Control Institute” in Los Angeles, CA. in 1967. He also attended the “FBI” Academy in 1980. Clyde also worked in traffic and other various departments within MPD. In total Clyde proudly worked 30 years for the Midland Police Department.Clyde also has many other honors: Honorary Life Membership Award from the P.T. A. in 1976, Centennial Citizen of Midland in 1985, but his most celebrated honor was voted by Midland residents in 1975 as “Lawmen of the Year”Clyde and his wife, Shirley who were married 58 years and are long time members of Crestview Baptist Church.Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Pauline Spaulding; twin brother, Clynt Spaulding; and brother, Howard Spaulding.He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Sandi Gillette and husband, Richard of Midland; granddaughters, Cadi and Cari Gillette of Midland; son, Jerry Spaulding and wife, Kenda of Frisco, TX; one sister-in-law, Sue Spaulding of Arlington, TX; and many nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 5:00-7:00PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 3:00PM at Crestview Baptist Church with Dr. John Gerlach officiating.
