Clifton Wayne Gober, 75 years old of Midland, TX, passed away on Monday, May 22 at Midland Memorial Hospital after a tough battle with cancer that he fought so bravely. He was surrounded by his family and the caring “family” he had adopted at Midland Memorial Hospital. A visitation will begin at 7:00 pm-9:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home on Thursday, May 25, 2017 which would have been his and Linda’s 59th wedding anniversary. Services will be at 11:00 am at Crestview Baptist Church on Friday, May 26, 2017. Graveside will be Friday, May 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.Clif (a.k.a. Daddy, Paw Paw, C.W., and Stud Muffin) was born on May 30, 1941 in Brownwood, TX to Elton Clifton Gober and Elna Ruth Gober. His family moved to Odessa while he was still a child and Clif enjoyed working on cars, reading books, playing games and playing baseball. He met his future wife, Linda Nunn, while she was still in junior high and attending a driver’s ed class with his friend. They married in Acuna, Mexico on May 25th, 1958 while they were both 16 years old. Their families encouraged them to marry again in Odessa, TX on May 27th, 1958, so that they’d be “legally married” in the State of Texas. They both graduated Odessa High School, Clif in 1959 and Linda in 1960. Together they had 4 children and 4 grandchildren that they loved spoiling and “creeping on” (he was an avid technology buff and “Find Friends” iPhone user). Clif had an amazing work ethic that he displayed in all areas of his life. He worked for such companies as: Texas Electric, Mobile Pipeline, General Electric, his own business – Area Electric, H&H Electric, Arco Oil & Gas, and retired with BP and continued consulting after his retirement with Point Forward, Inc. In his free time, Dad loved watching his Rangers, Cowboys, Texans and Golden State Warriors, a good John Wayne movie or Walker Texas Ranger episode while cuddling with his wife and his pup, Frankie Sue. They quite literally broke the mold when they made Dad. He was self-taught and so skilled in so much that his family was spoiled by NEVER having to hire repairmen, mechanics or electricians. His motto was, “if you don’t have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?” He was tough as old boot leather, but so soft on the inside that he cried every time he heard his grandkids sing. To say he will be missed is an understatement…but even in his passing, he stills holds his family together like glue. We are honored to carry on his legacy by loving each other and doing our best in all our future deeds.Clif is survived by his loving wife, Linda Gober of Midland, his children David Gober of Odessa, Dana and Joe Flud of Midland and Kaci and Scott Thissen, also of Midland; his precious grandkids – Kay and Marcus Thomas of Denver, CO, Kaitlyn Flud and KC Peoples (soon to be married), Ryley Flud (RJ) and Jackson Wayne Thissen of Midland, and his sister, Linda Rogers of Odessa; and sweet nieces, nephews and cousins.Clif is preceded in death by his son, Darren Gober, his parents Elton and Ruth Gober, his in-laws Orb and Alice Nunn and many loving aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. The family would like to express their gratitude towards Hospice of Midland, Midland Memorial Hospital Staff and Nurses, Manor Park, Texas Oncology, Dr. Vogel and Sondra Acklin, Jessica Vaughn and Nurses Unlimited, Crestview Baptist Church Staff and Church Family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Crestview Baptist Church’s Children’s Ministry.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
