Clifton Allen Roberson

Clifton Allen “Clif” Roberson, age 102, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on June 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and steadfast devotion to family. Born on October 8, 1923, to William Allen and Johnnie Howard Roberson, Clif was the oldest of twelve children. From an early age, he developed the strength, responsibility, and determination that would characterize his life for more than a century.

During World War II, Clif proudly served his country as a Ward Sergeant at Camp Swift Army Hospital in Bastrop, Texas. Years earlier, while just a teenager, he met Nelba Pauline Rinehart in Three Rivers, Texas. Clif was 15 and Pauline was 14 when their lifelong love story began. The couple married on April 30, 1945, in Munday, Texas, and together built a loving home and family, welcoming two children, Cheryl Lynn and Gary Dale.

Around 1948, Clif and Pauline settled in Midland, Texas. Having learned the carpentry trade from his father, Clif spent his career helping build the Permian Basin, serving as a carpenter, foreman, and superintendent. His skill, integrity, and strong work ethic earned the respect of those who worked alongside him. In 1970, the family relocated to Waxahachie, Texas, where Clif worked in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for Akard Construction before joining Southwestern Assemblies of God College, now Nelson University, as Maintenance Supervisor. In 1991, he and Pauline returned to Midland, a community that always felt like home.

Faith was the foundation of Clif’s life. A longtime member of First Assembly of God in Midland, he accumulated more than fifty years of membership and service, serving multiple terms as a deacon and member of the Board of Trustees. He also oversaw the construction of the original edifice at the church’s current location during the early 1960s, coordinating contractors and church members whose volunteer efforts helped bring the vision to life.

Those who knew Clif knew a man of deep conviction and unwavering faith. He was fiercely independent, a trait that remained with him throughout his life. More importantly, he was a faithful prayer warrior who lifted up his family and loved ones in prayer every day. His greatest desire was that those he loved would know and follow the Lord. His quiet example, steady encouragement, and faithful prayers will continue to impact generations.

Clif was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pauline; his parents, William Allen and Johnnie Howard Roberson; his son-in-law, Rev. Gary Jones; three brothers, Thomas, Ted, and Bill Roberson; six sisters, Evelyn, Mary, Francis, Nora Virginia, Leta, and Wynell; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Jones of San Antonio; grandchildren Becca Cano and husband David of San Antonio, and Brian Jones of San Antonio; his son, Gary Roberson and wife Yolanda of Midland; grandchildren Gabriel Roberson and wife Trina of San Angelo, and Gary Roberson II of Ft. Worth; five great-grandchildren, Niah, Giana, Beverly, Aydin, and Ashdin; two sisters, Roberta and Glenda; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Though he helped build many homes, businesses, and churches throughout his lifetime, Clif’s greatest work was building a legacy of faith, family, and prayer. The foundation he laid through his example and devotion to Christ will continue to bless generations to come.
