Cletha Clayton, 84, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, July 27, 2008, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the East Fourth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gentry, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.She was born on January 16, 1924, in Fannin County, Texas and married W. L. Clayton on November 24, 1939 in Bonham. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1987.A longtime resident of Big Spring, Cletha and her husband, W. L. moved here in the 1950's where he worked for the railroad. In the face of many difficulties, including the deaths of her daughter, son and husband, Cletha maintained a strong commitment to her Christian faith, and was a shining example of how a Christian should live their life. She was a member of East Fourth Street Baptist Church where she taught primaries for twenty years and was a member of the bereavement committee. Her tireless efforts helped to comfort hundreds of bereaved families over the years. Her decorations always filled the church fellowship hall during meals for grieving family members.Cletha was known for her annual Halloween parties, which drew many generations of families over the years. She also loved decorating for other holidays and on any given holiday, her home would be decorated from top to bottom with beautiful decorations that she had collected over the years.Cletha loved the color purple, which is evident all around her home that she loved so much. She took loving care of her flowers and plants in the yard, which was always immaculately trimmed and green. She also loved feeding the birds, with many bird feeders and bird baths in her yard.Survivors include one son, Jerry Clayton of San Antonio; two brothers, Herman Jones of Midland, and Edwin Jones of Charlotte, Michigan. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue and a son, Barry. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
