Clayton Swinney, 91, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, July 29, 2006, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, July 31, 2006, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the funeral home.He was born on May 15, 1915, in Cherokee County, Texas and married Maurine Word and she preceded him in death in 1979. Mr. Swinney married Kittie Bell Anderson and she also preceded him in death in 1989.Mr. Swinney came to Big Spring in 1946 from Houston. He had worked for Republic Oil Field Supply for five years and then for Cosden for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1979. He had served in th United States Army during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was involved in the choir for many years and had served as a deacon. Mr. Swinney was also a member of the Staked Plains Lodge #598 A.F. & A.M. and was a member of the Chapter, the Council and the Commandery.Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lois and Ross Word of Chicago, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Luther McDaniel of Kerrville; seven grandchildren, Janice Zink and husband, Steven of Chicago, Illinois, Vanessa Word-Oliver and husband, Ron of Salt Lake City, Utah, Dana Fossett, Lisa Gaiennie, Derek McDaniel, Jennifer McDaniel, and Brett McNeal; four cousins, Carlee Swinney, Ernestine Rogers, Bobbie Mills, and Sue Darnell; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver and close, loving friend, Johnnie Lou Avery of Big Spring.He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Betty McNeal; and one cousin, Eddie Mills.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clayton Swinney fund at First Baptist Church, 705 W.
