Chuck Brown, 78, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, in Midland. Memorial services will be held on May 4, 2013 at 1:00PM at St. Anns Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Droll officiating. Chuck was born May 7, 1934, in Rensselaer, IN to Mildred and Joseph Brown. He graduated from St. Augustine Catholic School as Valedictorian in 1949 and from Rensselaer High School in 1952. While in high school Chuck was active in football, basketball and track teams. He graduated with a degree in Geology, a minor in Biology, from St. Josephs College in 1956. He served in the United States Army from November 1956 to November 1958. Chuck worked as a surveyor for Geophysical Service (GSI) in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Ohio. Then he worked as a refraction explorer in Saudi Arabia from 1961 to 1965. He continued working for GSI in Columbia, Mexico, and Montana through 1970. He then transferred to Midland, TX, where he was crew chief and supervised crews in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona, and California. He retired in 1986 from GSI in Midland and then started his own company, CBI (Chuck Brown Inc.) Geophysical Enterprises. His business consisted of collecting data, utilizing GSI contract crews to collect the data and selling the data to oil companies, to use in their exploration programs. Chuck also started CBI Arts, to buy antiques, limited edition prints, limited edition bronzes and original oil paintings for resale.His hobbies were rock-hounding, cutting and polishing rocks, jade carving, silver smithing and casting, hunting, fishing, and skiing. He enjoyed collecting glass paperweights, art glass, art pottery, and Indian artifacts. Chuck was a certified member of the Midland Gem and Mineral Society and also a member of the American Legion.Survivors include daughter, Erin E. Brown of Denver, CO; siblings, Donald Brown and wife JoAnn of Rensselaer, IN, Virginia Mackey and husband Joseph of Chicago, IL, Carol Luttrell and husband William of Columbia, KY, Richard Brown and wife Monica of Las Vegas, NV, and Sandra Demo of Oconomowoc, WI; 8 nephews and 13 nieces.He was preceded in death by parents, sister, Louella Cordes, and 2 nephews.The family suggests memorials be made to Home Hospice 901 W.
