Christopher Francis McCormack, beloved husband, brother, in-law, and uncle, passed away on Christmas Eve in Midland, Texas. Christopher was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 16, 1950, to Francis T. McCormack, Jr. and Mary Sloan McCormack. He grew up traveling the world with his Air Force family, living in Texas, New Mexico, Germany, Maine, Arizona and Virginia. He graduated from the University of Virginia, and the University of Houston Law Center in 1979.After law school Christopher moved to Midland, Texas to work for West Texas Legal Aid, and later established his private law practice there. He married Bonita Robin Byrd of Midland in 1992. He practiced family and criminal law, and was an expert Social Security/ Disability lawyer. Christopher was active in the community, serving on the boards of Legal Aid, Child Welfare, the Midland Battered Women’s Center and Planned Parenthood. He represented the interests of many children for Child Protective Services. He was the longtime Midland County Democratic chairman and served two terms on the State Democratic Executive Committee. Chris was also a serious sports fan, always loyal to the Washington Redskins and the University of North Carolina basketball team, even living deep in the heart of Texas for so long!Christopher is predeceased by his parents. Survivors include his beloved wife and true companion, Robin Byrd McCormack; sisters Maureen McCormack, Deirdre McCormack (Terry Hillman), Theresa Wolfe (Mark Wolfe) and brother Michael McCormack (Lori); aunt and uncle Lou and Larry Sloan; in-laws Darrel and Virginia Byrd, Susan and Tom Jenkins, Sherry and Carl Kizziar, Debbie Fisher; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Christopher was always a source of support and wisdom to his family and a generous and loving uncle. He shared his love of books with all of us. He had a very big heart and he wore it out helping everyone he could. He was our hero, and we will miss him terribly, but he left the world a better place.A memorial service will be held on January 24, 2015 at First Assembly of God at 1:00pm.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
