Christine Agnes Hines (Chris) was called to her Lord and Savior on May 22, 2016 in McKinney, Texas. She was born in Detroit, Texas, on August 6, 1931 to Christopher C and Grace Bales Hines. She retired in 1986 with 31 ½ years of Federal Service, which included the United States Army, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Department of Defense. Her various work experiences afforded her the opportunity to tour America as well as many countries around the world. She was based out of Washington D.C.; Sacramento, California; Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas; Okinawa, Japan; and Anchorage, Alaska. While stationed at these bases, she was able to go on R & R visits to Korea, the Philippines, Macaw, Hong Kong and Hawaii. She truly got to see the world.Though Chris had to deal with being legally blind, she counted it all joy. It was because of this blindness that her relationship with her Lord was renewed and solidified. She often said that she wouldn’t change a thing. In 2002, she attended a Walk to Emmaus and later that same year joined First United Methodist Church in Midland, Texas. The years following 2002 were some of the happiest for Chris as she was active in the Emmaus Community and in the ministries of her church. She especially enjoyed two mission trips: one being to Sager Brown, La. and the other to Costa Rica. At FUMC she faithfully participated in the Stephen Ministry and reached out to anyone who needed a listening ear. Her many friends made sure she was able to be as active in her church as she wanted to be. They volunteered to drive Chris wherever she needed to go. Chris’ family would like to say “Thank you” to the many people who ministered to Chris.Chris’ hobby was fishing. She loved taking trips with her family and friends and was always ready to go. She ended up being a collector of fishing items because they were gifts given to her by her friends.Chris is preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Grace Hines and by four brothers, Nathan, Neil, Dale, and Kenneth Hines. She is survived by two sisters: Virginia and husband Don McPeak of Midland, Texas, and Phila Parr of McKinney, Texas and by one brother: Charles and wife Wanda Hines of Midland, Texas. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Reta Hines and June Hines. She was Aunt Chris to 13 nieces and nephews as well as to many great and great-great nephews and nieces. She loved them all. There will be a visitation reception on Friday evening, May 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service honoring and celebrating her life is planned for Saturday, May 28th at 2:00 p.m.at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with the Reverend Macky Pitts presiding.Chris asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Area Missions Outreach Service (A.M.O.S.) at First United Methodist Church here in Midland.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
