Cherylene McMorriesMy mom died the other day. She was diagnosed with lung cancer eight months ago, and fought a heated battle but ultimately her stubborn will proved not enough. She finally succumbed on August 19, 2007, and true to nature… she put up a tough fight, refusing to go after most would have given up. Paula Cherylene McMorries was 60 years and some odd months old.Born to a World War II war hero and his sweetheart in Big Spring, Texas on March 20, 1947, Mom grew up farming and ranching in the community of Tarzan, Texas. Her father, Melton McMorries, preceded her in death, and her mother, Doris Whirley McMorries, is still alive and kicking. Mom attended elementary and junior high school at Grady. There she made eternal friendships, and terrorized the schools halls with her lifelong best friend and "partner in crime", Becky Haggard Williams. After a brief stint at Stanton High School, Mom transferred to Flower Grove High School.Mom is the oldest of three children. Her brothers Don and Neil still live in Tarzan, and were born in 1948 and 1949 respectively. Mom led an interesting and entertaining life with many occupations such as: farmer, cross country truck driver, oilfield truck driver, waitress, clerk, book keeper, salesman, caterer, house keeper, drywaller, shoe shiner, house wife, and entrepreneur. Always quick to laugh, she inherited a stubborn streak, and a boasted a feisty temper when riled. Displaying a warm smile, Mom was very kind, loving, and gentle with a sharp wit and wisdom to spare. She proved to be a good wife and mother, and even better grandmother. She gave birth to and raised three of us boys… God rest her soul. My oldest brother, Benny (BJ) Stone, Jr. lives in Midland while my younger brother, Tim Stone, lives in El Paso. BJ is married and has two children and two additional children with his wife, Leeann, along with a couple of grandkids. Timmy has three children with his wife, Kristie. I have two daughters of my own, and I also live in Midland. On November 6, 1993, Mom married her kindred spirit, Terry McAnally of Iraan, Texas. Terry is preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Annette McAnally, and has two grandchildren from Teresa. Papa Bear and Granny have been best friends and partners for over 15 years. They have lived in Midland since 2001 after living in Tarzan and Iraan. Terry is self employed as an independent oilfield consultant.Mom leaves behind eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was tremendously loved, and will be dearly missed. I love you Mom… BrandonPallbearers are: Elton Williams, Tommy Mathers, Marty Grant, Alan Wagner, Wade Miller, and Cal Neatherlin.
