With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Cheryl Payne, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Cheryl’s journey began on July 8, 1947, in Wilmington, Delaware, where she was welcomed into the world by her loving parents, Walter and Isabell Bedwell.
Cheryl’s life was one of love, adventure, and unwavering dedication to her family. She touched the lives of many as she journeyed through her life, leaving a trail of warmth and kindness wherever she went. From Delaware to Tennessee, California to Texas, Cheryl’s spirit knew no bounds, embracing each new chapter with open arms and a contagious zest for life.
In the embrace of love, Cheryl found her soulmate, Don Payne, and on February 14, 1981, they exchanged vows, promising to walk hand in hand through life’s adventures. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Cheryl’s devotion to her family knew no bounds, and she poured her heart and soul into every moment spent with her family and friends.
Throughout her journey, Cheryl held steadfast to her values, placing her family above all else. She worked tirelessly to provide for her loved ones, ensuring that they always felt supported and cherished. Her selflessness knew no bounds, as she gave everything she had, from the shirt off her back to the love in her heart, to those she held dear.
Cheryl’s love for her family was unparalleled, and her joy knew no bounds, especially during the magical moments of Christmas, as the world’s biggest kid at heart, where she reveled in the warmth of togetherness and the joy of creating cherished memories with her loved ones.
On February 21, 2024, Cheryl’s earthly journey came to an end, leaving behind a legacy of love and a lifetime of cherished memories. Though she may be physically absent, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Payne, her parents, Walter and Isabell Bedwell, her nephew Joe Paul, and her great-grandson Christopher Savell.
She is survived by her son, Paul Johnson, her daughter, Teresa Payne, her grandchildren, Terry Coates Jr and wife, Callie Beverly), Joseph Savell, her niece, June Smith, her great-nephew, Chad Anderson, her nephew, J. “Rusty” Plunkett (and wife Fran Tripp), great niece, Tausha Tripp, sister-in-law, Francis Payne, brother-in-law, Ronnie Payne, sister Renee Denton, sister Kay Denton, and brother, Leonard Bedwell along with a host of other loving family members and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
In honoring Cheryl’s memory, let us embrace each day with the same passion, love, and devotion that she exemplified throughout her life. May her spirit continue to guide us, and may her love shine brightly in our hearts forevermore.
Forever in our hearts, Cheryl’s legacy of love will continue to inspire us all. Rest peacefully, dear Cheryl, knowing that you are loved beyond measure and that your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Monday, February 26, 2024 at Trinity Memorial Park.
