Charlie Welch, 69, of Stanton, died on Monday, May 1, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the First Baptist Church Stanton with Rev. Waymon Swoopes, pastor of Greenwood Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Midland.The family will receive friends from 7 PM to 9 PM on Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the funeral home.He was born on November 18, 1936, in Tarzan, Texas and married Barbara Gay Meek on December 1, 1972 in Midland. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2003. Charlie was a longtime resident of the Martin County area and a graduate of Courtney High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but was especially proud of his grandson. He owned and operated a retail store for 30 years. He was a Baptist and a member of the Texas Wildlife Association and a supporter of 4-H Club.Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Irvin and Karla Welch of Richmond; two step sons, James Meek and Danny Meek both of Midland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Benny and Latrell Welch of Stanton, Eldon and Georgia Welch of Tarzan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gracie and Clarence "Sonny" Percy of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Glynda and Mac Tunnell of Tarzan; one grandson, Ryan Welch; 3 step-grandchildren, Sgt. Conrad Meek of Savanah, Georgia, Julie Heidelberg of Stanton and Toby Meek of Midland; 2 step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by his parents.The family suggests memorials be made to Texas Wildlife Association, %Texas Youth Hunting Program, 2800 N.E.
