Charlie Glenn Woods was born March 16, 1937 in Caps, Texas, to Sam and Lonie Woods. He died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Manor Park in Midland, Texas, after a lengthy hospital stay and a blessedly short time in a nursing facility. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Warren B. Woods, Bonita Woods Adams, and Geraldine Woods Thornton.Glenn was raised in Abilene, Texas. He attended and graduated from Abilene High where he was a member of the famed Abilene Eagle Team of the Century. His skills as a football player allowed him to attend Texas Tech University on a football scholarship. Glenn credited football for his education, his discipline, and the many opportunities he was granted throughout his life. After graduating from Texas Tech, Glenn coached football at McAllen and later at Midland Lee High School. He served the youth of Midland for 40 years as a coach, teacher, assistant principal counselor, and Director of Counseling for Midland ISD. Glenn leaves behind his wife of 49 years and 11 months, Peggy Ray Woods. Peggy also taught for Midland ISD until her retirement, and between the two of them it is hard to meet anyone from Midland they have not helped in some way. Glenn was a member of First United Methodist Church and taught the Partners class for many years. Two of his favorite pastimes were listening to gospel music and singing bass along with his treasured hymns. Glenn also leaves behind his sister and brother-in-law Nelda and Jerry Church; nieces Crystal Rolison, Janet Johnson, Marva Cagle and Kara Faith; nephew Ted Woods; and great-nephew Will Rolison. He passes on a legacy of caring and love for generations of students who passed through the Midland school system.Glenn loved his God, his family, and Texas high school football. He had many favorite bible verses, but one that can be associated with his life is found in Isaiah 40:31: “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” As much as we miss him, we know that he is soaring full of joy and free from pain.Services will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016, officiated by Macky Pitts and Roy Smith, with a reception to follow at the Branch @ NPW.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Glenn’s name to Home Hospice or a charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
